Boosting Homeownership During Hispanic Heritage Month
During Hispanic Heritage Month, we continue to encourage our local Latino neighbors to “Dream Big” (soñar en grande) about homeownership. It’s true that less than half of the Latino population are homeowners (U.S. Census data, 2019) and, in Marion County alone, Hispanic borrowers have a 10.7% mortgage denial rate (Home Mortgage Disclosure Act data, 2022). But, each day INHP works to reverse these trends.
INHP envisions an Indianapolis with equitable access to homeownership and works to address the diverse needs, preferences and barriers of those we serve.
We provide Spanish interpreters for our one-on-one advising and education classes, and Spanish translation of written materials. We offer unique affordable housing opportunities through partners like La Plaza, Indiana Construction Roundtable, and Goodwill of Central and Southern Indiana. We connect Hispanic borrowers to lenders who offer affordable lending products.
Additionally, we introduced the Community Lift mortgage loan program to support historically underserved homebuyers and neighborhoods in Marion County. Community Lift is available to borrowers earning low and moderate incomes who self-identify their race and/or ethnicity as a minority, or to those purchasing a property in a majority minority census tract in Indianapolis. It also features 100% financing with a minimum $500 toward closing costs.
Let’s continue to foster the homeownership dreams of our Hispanic friends and neighborhoods. Tienes grandes sueños, INHP puede ayudarte a realizarlos.
