Bridge to Homeownership program offers rent-to-buy with added financial stability
The right steps to homeownership are different for everyone. For many, INHP’s Bridge to Homeownership – a program that allows you to choose an affordable home in Marion County to rent first and buy later – is a smart option for those who qualify. The program is designed to create stability as you work to improve your financial future and it’s offered at an Indianapolis community and workforce development center near you.* During the first two months of 2025 alone, five Indianapolis families moved into new homes as part of Bridge to Homeownership program and several more are in the process of doing so.
Here’s how it works: INHP will initially own an affordable home you choose and require a 25-month lease and purchase agreement. (INHP will help to determine your affordable options.) More than half of each month’s rent you pay will be reserved for your home’s down payment. You’ll also be enrolled in a special matched savings account and be required to successfully complete all four INHP education classes.
As you transition from renting, your accumulated down payment and matched savings will help to create an affordable mortgage payment. Eligible homes are based on household income and other factors.
