Equitable housing opportunities and Black History Month

Black History Month is a good time to reflect on how far the U.S. has come in making housing opportunities more equitable – including the substantial homeownership achievements made by a few legendary Black Americans – and recognize there is still a lot of work to be done.

INHP is committed to advancing equitable affordable housing solutions that address the diverse needs, preferences, and barriers of those we serve, which is why we:

  • Offer the Community Lift mortgage loan program for borrowers with limited incomes who self-identify their race and/or ethnicity as a minority, or who purchase a property in a majority minority census tract.
  • Continue to develop Arnold Place, named for a Reagan Park neighborhood centenarian living in the area for more than 70 years. Arnold Place is a collaboration in part with the City of Indianapolis Department of Metropolitan Development and the Indianapolis African American Quality of Life Initiative. And, the first of these affordable townhomes are scheduled for availability towards the end of March via our First Look program.
  • Support team members who are actively involved in organizations like 100 Black Women of Indiana, Central Indiana Realtist Association and MIBOR® REALTOR Association’s DEI Council. Involvement in these groups helps to keep INHP informed and at the forefront of the local affordable housing needs of minorities.

During Black History Month – and every month – we strive to make Indianapolis a place we’re all proud to call home.
